The Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has sentenced two repeat offenders to five years in prison for drug trafficking following a police operation in the Ofra neighborhood.

The Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has sentenced two people to five years in prison for drug trafficking. The ruling highlights the success of local police surveillance in high-risk areas and demonstrates how the Spanish legal system applies stricter penalties for repeat offenders.

The court’s decision relied on testimony from officers who conducted an operation in the Ofra neighborhood on March 30, 2025. From 30 meters away, police watched as the two individuals noticed them and attempted to discard packages. Officers recovered nearly four grams of 95% pure cocaine, including eleven small wraps from one person and twenty doses hidden in a napkin from the other.

The five-year sentence was largely driven by the defendants' criminal histories. Under Spanish law, repeat offenses lead to harsher penalties. Both individuals had previous convictions—one had served two sentences totaling three years, while the other had a prior three-year sentence. This history, combined with the evidence of the drugs, left the court with no doubt regarding their guilt.

During the trial, one defendant confessed to selling drugs to make a living, attempting to take full blame to clear his companion. However, the court ruled that both were involved, citing the officers' clear identification of the pair and the fact that they were found carrying 121 and 235 euros in cash, respectively. One of the defendants has been held in custody since his arrest, underscoring the court's firm stance on small-scale drug dealing in residential neighborhoods.
