Tenerife is investing over 20 million euros in modernizing the irrigation system of the Güímar Valley, including the construction of a new reservoir and the upgrading of the distribution network.
Tenerife plans to seriously upgrade the irrigation system in the Güímar Valley. The local authorities, Cabildo, will allocate over 20 million euros for this purpose.
The money is intended to improve irrigation in the areas of Güímar, Arafo, and Candelaria. In particular, there are plans to modernize the pumping station, lay new water pipes, build a water storage pool, and upgrade the water distribution system for irrigation.
Valentín González, who is responsible for agriculture, explained that the water pool will be built separately from the distribution system to avoid delaying the process.
Cabildo wants the construction of this pool, worth 5.4 million euros, to be included in the water management development plan for Tenerife. It is said that this pool will be very important for the entire irrigation system.
In addition, the renovation of the water distribution system has already begun, with an investment of 15 million euros. There are also plans to launch a water purification project for reuse, costing approximately 745,000 euros.
