The Tenerife Island Council has launched a comprehensive strategic plan featuring infrastructure upgrades, environmental protection initiatives, and new funding for youth employment and scientific research.
The Tenerife Island Council has announced a new strategic plan focused on industrial growth, infrastructure improvements, and youth employment. Following a recent meeting, the administration confirmed several key agreements to support local development and environmental protection.
Industrial and Infrastructure Upgrades The Council has partnered with the El Rosario City Council to manage the La Campana industrial estate through 2027. This agreement aims to provide professional maintenance for the logistics hub, which has already received 15 million euros in recent funding.
Additionally, the Council approved 2.9 million euros to resurface an eight-kilometer stretch of the TF-82 road between El Tanque and Santiago del Teide. The project, expected to take seven months, will improve safety for the 11,000 vehicles that use the route daily.
Environmental Initiatives To better protect the island’s natural spaces, Luis Gutiérrez Valido has been appointed technical director of the Teide National Park Sustainable Mobility Program. Furthermore, the Council is investing 427,290 euros into the Renaturmac 2026-2028 project to introduce sustainable, agroecological livestock farming in the Teno Rural Park.
Research and Social Programs The Technological and Renewable Energy Institute (ITER) will continue its partnership with the Department of Education through the 2026-2027 academic year, supporting ongoing research in biotechnology, genomics, and medicine.
On the social front, the Council has renewed the "NOE Project" with four million euros in funding to help young people find their first jobs. Finally, 100,000 euros have been set aside to support gender equality initiatives across the island’s 31 municipalities.
