Tenerife Council to Promote E-Waste Awareness at TLP 2026
The Tenerife Island Council will promote electronic waste recycling and its "Truec@" circular economy platform at the 2026 Tenerife Lan Party through interactive educational initiatives.
The Tenerife Island Council has announced it will participate in the 2026 Tenerife Lan Party (TLP) with a new strategy centered on environmental education. The Department of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies is joining the event to connect with digital-native attendees and highlight the growing importance of managing electronic waste.
A key goal is to raise awareness about how to properly handle Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Alejandro Molowny, the Island Director of Waste, emphasized the difference between recycling and reuse: devices handed over at the event will be sent directly to the island’s official recycling centers (puntos limpios) and will not be part of any exchange programs. This distinction is important because the Council will also be promoting "Truec@," its digital platform for the circular economy.
Truec@ allows users to drop off unwanted items at civic amenity sites in exchange for credits, which can then be used to claim other items on the platform. Island Councilor Blanca Pérez believes this tool is essential for encouraging younger generations to adopt more sustainable habits.
To make this initiative more engaging, the Council is launching an interactive contest called "Don't Let Your Chip Get Fried!" The competition aims to teach participants about proper waste disposal through gaming. By doing this, the Council hopes to change how people view electronic waste—shifting the focus from it being a burden to seeing it as a valuable resource that can be managed efficiently within a circular economy.
