Tenerife Council Invests €120K in Art Galleries
Tenerife's Island Council approved €120,000 in funding for 2025-2026 to support local art galleries and promote Tenerife-based artists internationally.
Tenerife's Island Council has given the green light to funding for art galleries on the island for 2025-2026. They're putting €120,000 into the project to help galleries showcase their work and boost the profile of local artists.
Lope Afonso, the Council's vice president, explained that the money is intended to support exhibitions and help Tenerife's artists gain international recognition.
Private galleries based in Tenerife can apply for the funding, as long as they have a regular exhibition schedule for at least eight months of the year and primarily focus on displaying and selling art.
José Carlos Acha, the Island Councillor for Culture and Museums, emphasized that at least half the artwork displayed in these projects must be by artists who live and work in Tenerife. This shows the Council's dedication to supporting local talent and strengthening the island's art scene.
The funding is divided into two pots: €90,000 for businesses and sole traders, and €30,000 for non-profit organizations. Each successful applicant can receive up to €40,000, but this cannot exceed 80% of their total project costs, according to Acha.
The funding can be used for various expenses, including up to €20,000 for organizing exhibitions, €10,000 for producing catalogs, and €10,000 for participating in art fairs both in Spain and abroad. The funded activities must take place between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026, and all paperwork must be submitted by September 30, 2026.
