The Tenerife Island Council has increased the budget to €3.26 million and extended the completion deadline to 2027 for the restoration of Fasnia’s old cinema into a multi-purpose community hub.

The Tenerife Island Council has updated the plans and budget for the restoration of the old cinema in Fasnia. Part of a cultural infrastructure plan running through 2029, the project aims to turn the building into a multi-purpose community space that fits seamlessly into the town.

The budget has been increased by 21,554 euros, bringing the total cost to 3,263,601 euros. According to José Carlos Acha, the Minister of Culture, Museums, and Sports, this extra funding covers more than just rising costs; it allows for improvements to the land next to the cinema. This includes restoring a second facade and creating a new public area designed to serve as a neighborhood meeting spot.

The Council has also extended the project’s timeline to give the Fasnia City Council more breathing room. The work is now scheduled for completion by September 10, 2027, with the final administrative paperwork due that November. This replaces the original 2022–2024 schedule, which officials deemed unrealistic.

This project is part of a broader effort to preserve historical buildings while creating useful spaces for social activity in rural southern Tenerife. By adjusting the scope and timeline, the Island Council hopes to ensure the cinema becomes a functional, long-term cultural hub for the region.
