Tenerife Council Funds "YoSoyIgual" Project to Boost Gender Equality in Tech and Industry
The Cabildo de Tenerife has provided funding to Femete to extend its "YoSoyIgual" project until August 2026, aiming to promote gender equality policies and increase women's participation in traditionally male-dominated sectors through awareness campaigns and training.
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through its departments for the Presidency, Equality, Diversity, Finance, and Strategic Projects, has provided funding to continue and expand the "YoSoyIgual" project. This project is run by Femete, an association representing companies in the metal and new technologies sector in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The project will run until August 2026.
This funding comes from a program that supports non-profit organizations, foundations, professional groups, and other voluntary bodies. The aim is to fund initiatives that help create real gender equality policies across the island.
Juan Antonio Jiménez, the president of Femete, explained that the "YoSoyIgual" project began in 2018. Its goal is to promote equal opportunities for women and men, and to encourage women's involvement in society and the workplace. This is achieved through positive actions that address gender inequality. Femete, as an employers' association dedicated to gender equality and increasing female employment in industrial fields, is committed to running awareness campaigns and training programs. These efforts aim to encourage more women to enter professions where they are currently underrepresented.
Jiménez highlighted that Femete's dedication is evident in the increasing number of women who have completed or are currently undergoing training at Femete. This training improves their job prospects and leads to more women being hired in traditionally male-dominated areas such as welding, metal construction, car mechanics, electrical work, air conditioning, and ship repair.
