Schedule:
-
5:00 PM, Zone Zero (Plaza Cristo): Tribute to Fernando Senante
- Participants: Amaya Senante, Carmelo Rivero, Cecilia Domínguez Luis, and Rubén Díaz.
Fernando Senante (1959–2025) was an extraordinary individual: an urban planner, lawyer, poet, and journalist. He combined his work in territorial planning with a love for culture. In his articles, he always clearly and critically defended a humane approach to nature and the identity of the Canary Islands. He was the brother of singer Juan Carlos (Caco) Senante and left a significant mark on reflections about the land and the word.
-
6:00 PM, Island Space (Plaza Cristo): Tribute to Jaime Mir
- Participants: Alfonso González Jerez, Antonio Bencomo, and Mariano Gambín.
Jaime Mir Payá (1964–2025) was a writer and teacher who wrote in the noir and crime genres. He wrote only one novel, "The Case of the Client from Nouakchott" (awarded the Benito Pérez Armas publishing prize in 1990), which, along with the collection of stories "Black Hour Minus" by Carlos Álvarez, made him one of the first detective authors in the Canary Islands. His restrained style, ironic perspective, and understanding of society made him an important figure in Canarian literature with a police twist. It is a pity that he did not continue to develop the character of Carlos Alberto Rico, also known as Sheikh, the private detective from his only novel. In addition to his writing, he was an excellent teacher, remembered by many generations of students.
-
8:00 PM, Zone Zero (Plaza Cristo): Tribute to Luis Alemany
- Participants: Chema Pantín, Javier Peñapinto, and Rubén Díaz.
Luis Alemany (1944–2025), winner of the Canary Islands Literature Prize in 2012, was one of the most well-known and influential voices in Canarian theater and literature. Born in Barcelona, he was a Tenerife native at heart. He taught Romance Philology at the University of La Laguna, and also wrote books and essays. His work, full of irony and clarity, explored human contradictions and the identity of the Canary Islands in works such as "Circe's Pigs" – a true story about a generation that lost hope and illusions too quickly.
Come to remember and honor these individuals! These three meetings are a journey into the cultural memory of the Canary Islands, an opportunity to pay tribute to those who helped shape their intellectual and artistic identity. With this event, the Cabildo de Tenerife underscores its commitment to preserving the memory and recognition of our creators.
