The Tenerife Island Council expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and its diaspora, lighting its main building in the Venezuelan flag colors to highlight deep historical ties and wish for stability amid the country's current situation.

The Tenerife Island Council has publicly expressed its support and sympathy for the Venezuelan people, given the country's current situation. This message is particularly aimed at Canarian-Venezuelan families, their descendants, and Venezuelan residents on the island.

The island's president, Rosa Dávila, posted on social media that Tenerife shares a "deep and lasting" relationship with Venezuela. For many years, Venezuela welcomed thousands of Canarians, and today, a significant Venezuelan community is integrated into Tenerife's society.

Her post included a picture of the island's main building lit up in the colors of the Venezuelan flag. This was a gesture of support for both Venezuelan residents on Tenerife and Canarians who have emigrated to Venezuela, often known as the "Eighth Island."

The island council stressed that the strong historical, social, and cultural ties between Tenerife and Venezuela mean that the situation in the South American country, following the military intervention by the Donald Trump administration, is felt with special sensitivity on the island.

These ties were forged over generations of Canarian emigration to Venezuela, and through decades of coexistence, exchange, and mutual rootedness. They have become even more evident recently, following the US offensive that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

In this context, the Tenerife Island Council has expressed its wish for Venezuela to begin a new stage marked by stability, freedom, hope, and prosperity. It reaffirmed its institutional and human support for all those who maintain family, emotional, and cultural ties between both territories.
