The Tenerife Island Council has approved a €525,413 project to resurface a six-kilometre stretch of the TF-42 road in Garachico as part of a broader island-wide infrastructure maintenance plan.

The Tenerife Island Council has approved plans to resurface a six-kilometre stretch of the TF-42 road in Garachico. The project, which has a budget of €525,413, aims to repair wear and tear on the section between kilometres 7.3 and 13.5.

Led by the Department of Roads, the project focuses on preventive maintenance rather than major construction. Workers will remove the top five centimetres of the existing road surface and replace it with new asphalt. To improve safety—especially given the area’s challenging weather and terrain—the project also includes repainting all road markings with reflective thermoplastic paint.

The plan is now open for public review for 20 days. If the process stays on schedule, the Council expects to open the project for bidding and begin work before the end of the year. Once construction begins, the selected contractor will have three months to finish the job.

This project is part of a larger, long-term investment plan running until 2029. The Council has committed over €200 million to more than 80 road projects across the island. By prioritizing preventive maintenance, the administration hopes to address the ongoing challenge of keeping Tenerife’s heavily used road network safe and in good condition, supporting both local travel and economic growth.
