The Tenerife Island Council is set to approve an agreement with La Victoria City Council to build 21 publicly funded homes for €4.48 million, as part of a larger €45 million island-wide affordable housing initiative.

The governing body of the Tenerife Island Council is set to approve an agreement this Wednesday with the La Victoria City Council. This agreement will allow for the construction of 21 publicly funded homes in La Victoria, with a budget of 4,482,175.37 euros.

This specific agreement is part of a larger plan between the Tenerife Island Council and the Canary Islands Government, managed through the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI). This wider initiative involves a 45-million-euro investment to build affordable rental homes across the entire island, the Council stated.

Housing Minister Sonia Hernández welcomed the agreement, stating it reinforces the Tenerife Island Council's commitment to increasing the availability of public housing. She highlighted that this particular project is in a town with fewer than 20,000 residents, aiming to provide equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of where they live.

The Tenerife Island Council also pointed out that, under this agreement, the La Victoria City Council has provided a 1,008-square-meter plot of land at numbers 133 and 135 on general road TF217. This land was acquired through the 'Activa Suelo Program,' an initiative by the Tenerife Island Council designed to help local councils purchase land for building public housing.

The Council emphasized that this project is the result of collaboration between different government bodies, aiming to address the urgent need for more public housing and provide affordable rental options for families and young people.
