The Tenerife Island Council has unveiled a six-million-euro investment plan to modernize water infrastructure, boost youth employment through professional internships, and restore historical cultural sites.

The Tenerife Island Council has announced a new investment plan worth over six million euros, aimed at modernizing essential services, boosting the local job market, and preserving the island’s cultural heritage.

Improving Water Infrastructure The Council is investing 3.36 million euros to upgrade wastewater treatment systems. Key projects include:

  • Santa Úrsula: A 1.79 million euro project (90% funded by the Council) to separate water networks and improve supply in the La Bastona area.
  • Tacoronte: A 1.57 million euro project to expand the main collector at Mesa del Mar, addressing long-standing issues with discharge management.

These upgrades are essential for meeting European environmental standards and protecting the island’s coastal ecosystems.

Supporting Youth Employment To tackle youth unemployment, the Council has launched a 1.76 million euro initiative through Fifede. This program will provide one-year professional internships for 54 graduates across 18 public organizations. The goal is to help young people under 30 overcome the "lack of experience" barrier that often prevents them from entering the workforce.

Preserving Cultural Heritage Finally, a 901,887 euro project has been approved to restore historical sites in Vilaflor de Chasna. Between 2026 and 2028, work will be carried out at Los Lavaderos and the Fuente del Chorrillo. This project aims to restore these sites while celebrating the island's traditional water management practices, ensuring this ethnographic history is protected for the future.
