Tenerife Council Announces €3.4 Million Upgrade for TF-351 Road

The Tenerife Island Council has announced a major upgrade for the TF-351, the road connecting San Juan de la Rambla and La Guancha. The project, which has passed its initial approval stage and is now open for public review, aims to improve travel for the nearly 3,000 vehicles that use the route every day.

With a budget of 3.4 million euros, the 5.3-kilometer renovation is expected to take four months to complete. This work is part of a larger island-wide strategy involving over 80 projects planned through 2029. A key focus is modernizing infrastructure to better support public transport; the plan includes upgrading bus stops to meet accessibility standards and creating dedicated pull-off areas. These lay-bys will keep buses out of the main traffic flow, helping to reduce accidents and ease congestion.

Safety is at the heart of the project. Plans include replacing existing guardrails with certified safety barriers and building retaining walls in the most dangerous sections. The road surface will also be completely renewed, using specialized techniques tailored to both rural and urban areas.

To finish the project, crews will install new road signs and markings, and improve the drainage system. By upgrading gutters and increasing the road's ability to handle water, the council hopes to prevent the asphalt from wearing down prematurely during heavy rains—a common issue due to the terrain of northern Tenerife. Dámaso Arteaga, the Minister of Roads, stated that these improvements are designed to ensure the road is durable, sustainable, and efficient for all travelers.
