Tenerife Comic Fair Kicks Off Main Events in Santa Cruz
The 22nd Tenerife International Comic and Illustration Fair brings its main events to Santa Cruz de Tenerife this week, featuring exhibitions, workshops, awards, and the opening of the Manuel Darias Comic Book House.
The 22nd Tenerife International Comic and Illustration Fair is bringing its main events to Tenerife's capital city this Thursday through Sunday. Over the past month, the fair has already held exhibitions at various locations across the Canary Islands.
Now, most of the 30 activities planned by the Cine+Cómics Foundation and the Moebius Cultural Chair of the University of La Laguna will take place at Plaza del Príncipe and the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts.
A highlight of this year's fair is the opening of the Manuel Darias Comic Book House tonight at 8:00 PM. This is a joint project between the Cine+Cómics Foundation and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.
The new space will feature an exhibition dedicated to Manuel Darias, a comic book critic and long-time contributor to DIARIO DE AVISOS with his "Historieta" page, which ran for over 50 years. The Comic Book House will also host temporary exhibitions focusing on Spanish comics, starting with "Ronson: Personal Neorealism" by César Sebastián, on display until the end of November.
On Saturday at 8:00 PM, Santa Cruz Cómic 2025 will celebrate comic talent from around the world, Spain, and the local area with an awards ceremony at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes. The event will include the presentation of the Wonder Chicha awards, designed using a drawing by Javier Nóbrega. There will also be a screening of the short film "Last Trial: A Star Wars Collateral Story," presented by actor Pablo Montenegro. The winners of the Certamen Juventud Canaria 2025, a contest organized by the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, will also be recognized.
The four-day program is packed with events dedicated to comics and illustration. You can find the full schedule on the website www.santacruzcomic.es. One of the highlights is an "Artist Alley" in the Plaza del Príncipe, featuring over 70 artists.
Other outdoor activities include autograph sessions with all the fair's guests on Saturday the 25th at 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, free role-playing games led by the Association of Roleplayers of the Canary Islands (ARC), and a live drawing session with artists Juan Álvarez and Jorge G.
