Tenerife Coast Human Remains Trigger Forensic Probe
Human remains discovered on the coast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife by the Military Emergency Unit have triggered a forensic investigation to identify the individual and determine the cause of death.
Human remains found on the coast of Tenerife have triggered a standard forensic investigation. This process aims to identify the person and understand how they died.
Reports indicate the discovery happened on Wednesday afternoon in a coastal part of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The remains were found near Los Moriscos, in the Hoya Fría area, close to the TF-4 road leading into the capital.
Members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) from Los Rodeos found the remains while on a training exercise nearby. The Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) was alerted around 6:00 PM.
Because the remains were badly decomposed and in a hard-to-reach spot, firefighters from the Tomé Cano station were called out. Police officers from the Homicide Group and Forensic Police also responded. Firefighters recovered the remains, which were then initially examined by police.
Afterwards, the remains were taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The IML's main job is to identify the person. They will conduct DNA tests to see if the remains match anyone currently missing on the island.
The National Police have started an investigation to determine both the person's identity and how they died.
