Tenerife Closes TF-445 Road Following Rockfall Near Punta de Teno
The Tenerife Island Council has closed the TF-445 road between Buenavista del Norte and Punta de Teno indefinitely following a rockfall that damaged safety netting and rendered the slope unstable.
Road safety in northwest Tenerife is back in the spotlight after a recent rockfall on the TF-445, the road connecting Buenavista del Norte to Punta de Teno. The Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) has closed the road entirely as a precaution, citing the instability of the terrain.
The falling boulders have damaged the safety netting installed on the slope to prevent such hazards. Because the area remains prone to further rockfalls, authorities are urging the public to stay away and strictly follow all posted warning signs.
This closure creates further travel difficulties in the region, which was already facing service disruptions on TITSA bus line 369 due to ongoing maintenance work that began on January 19, 2026. The area’s rugged cliffs are ecologically significant but geologically fragile, making the maintenance of local roads a constant challenge.
The Cabildo has not yet announced a reopening date, as cleanup and slope stabilization efforts are still underway. Officials are currently assessing the structural damage, and travelers are advised to check the island’s Road Information Center for the latest updates on when the route might reopen.
