A child and a suspected attacker died, and a mother and police officer were seriously injured in a violent incident, possibly domestic violence, early Friday in Tenerife, prompting police to shoot the attacker.

An investigation is underway in Tenerife into a violent incident that happened early Friday morning. Authorities are looking into whether it was a case of domestic violence. A child and the suspected attacker died, while the child's mother and a police officer were seriously injured.

Preliminary reports indicate the events took place around 2 AM at a home in Arona, a town in the south of the island.

When Civil Guard officers arrived at the home in the Cabo Blanco area, they found the child dead. The mother had severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

The attacker used a machete and also assaulted the responding Civil Guard officers. During the confrontation, one officer was injured in the arm and taken to the hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening, but he is awaiting surgery. Due to the ongoing aggression, officers used their service weapons, and the suspected attacker was shot dead at the scene.
