Tenerife Capital Secures €1.6 Million for Digital Logistics Overhaul

Tenerife’s capital is set to overhaul its logistics operations after receiving €1.6 million from the Ministry of Innovation. Announced at a recent conference on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), the funding will be used to build digital infrastructure designed to make urban goods delivery more efficient.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez introduced the project at the ITS Spain meeting, explaining that it aims to improve how loading and unloading are handled. By reorganizing how public space is used for these tasks, the city hopes to better manage the daily friction between traffic, local businesses, and pedestrians in busy areas. This platform is a key part of the city’s broader plan to become a leader in digital mobility.

This investment builds on the City Council’s ongoing work in sustainability. Evelyn Alonso, head of the Mobility department, noted that the city is also investing roughly €30 million to replace its bus fleet with lower-emission vehicles, aiming to make public transport both greener and more accessible.

This move toward digital logistics reflects a wider European trend to reduce the traffic and pollution caused by the rise of e-commerce. By using smart technology to manage loading zones, the city aims to ease traffic congestion, support local businesses, and make the supply chain smoother and less disruptive for residents.
