Tenerife CajaCanarias faces a decisive final round in the Division of Honor Spanish Club Championship this Saturday, with both men’s and women’s teams competing to secure their spots in the top national athletics division.

This Saturday, June 13, is a critical day for Tenerife CajaCanarias as the club fights to maintain its spot in the elite of Spanish athletics. Both the men’s and women’s teams are competing in the final round of the Division of Honor Spanish Club Championship, which will decide which teams stay in the top national division for the 2026/2027 season.

The final features the eight lowest-ranked clubs from the first two rounds. Because each team can only enter one athlete per event, the competition shifts from individual performance to collective strategy, where every point is vital to avoiding relegation.

The women’s team, currently in sixth place, will travel to the Vallehermoso Stadium in Madrid. Led by athletes such as Lucía Carrillo, Eva Cárdenas, Ana González, Laura Botella, Lucía Morera, Mariana Braz, and Carmen Ramos, they will face off against Universidad de León Sprint Atletismo, Atletismo Piélagos, AA Catalunya, Alcampo Scorpio 71, A.D. Marathon, Ría Ferrol-C. Arenal, and Avinent Manresa.

The men’s squad, sitting in a more secure third place, will compete in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona. Their lineup includes Samuel García, Jesús David Delgado, Carlos Beltrán, Yasiel Sotero, Pablo Gámez, Pablo Martínez, and Angelo Iaccarino. They will compete against L’Hospitalet Atletisme, Pontevedra Atletismo, Alcampo Scorpio 71, Atletismo Intec-Zoiti, AA Catalunya, Atlético Salamanca, and Cornellà Atlètic.

Club president Héctor González described the day as a "maturity test" for the organization. He noted that while the team is optimistic, success depends on executing their strategy perfectly and scoring points in every discipline to ensure they remain in the top flight.
