The Cabildo de Tenerife will spend €153,000 on a medical care program for elderly Tenerife natives and their descendants living in Venezuela who lack health insurance, starting December 2025.

The Cabildo de Tenerife, the island's governing body, has announced it will spend 153,000 euros on a medical care program for people from Tenerife living in Venezuela.

The program will run from December 22, 2025, to December 21, 2026. It aims to provide basic and specialist healthcare to Tenerife natives over 65, their children or grandchildren, or anyone whose last home in Spain was Tenerife. To qualify, they must live in Venezuela and not have public or private health insurance.

Services covered include general medical care, specialist appointments, hospital stays and operations, and emergency home visits. The program also includes prescription medication and refunds for medical costs.

Initially, 122 people will benefit from the project. More beneficiaries are expected to join later, provided they can prove their connection to Tenerife and meet the social and health requirements set by the Fundación España-Salud.

Pedro González, the Cabildo's Island Director for Foreign Affairs and Institutional Relations, stressed that this initiative reaffirms the council's solidarity and support for the migrant community, especially for vulnerable elderly individuals.
