Tenerife's Cabildo has approved an 86,000 euro grant for the University of La Laguna to support its performing arts program and various cultural projects.

Tenerife's local government, the Cabildo, through its Culture, Museums, and Sports Department, has approved a direct grant of 86,000 euros for the University of La Laguna (ULL).

This funding is intended to support the performing arts program at the university's Paraninfo venue and to help run cultural projects initiated by various departments, faculties, and staff members at the ULL.

José Carlos Acha, the island's culture councilor, stated that this aid "reinforces the Cabildo's commitment to the University of La Laguna as an essential cultural agent of the Island and as a meeting point for knowledge, artistic creation, and citizenship."

He explained that the subsidy helps maintain a stable cultural program at the Paraninfo and encourages more university community members to participate in Tenerife's cultural life. Acha added that the ULL is a leader not only in academics but also in fostering critical thought, artistic creation, and cultural outreach.

Of the 86,000 euros, 12,000 euros are specifically for the Paraninfo's performing and musical arts program. The remaining 74,000 euros will go towards cultural projects that promote learning and understanding in areas such as literature, visual arts, performing and musical arts, cultural theory, and general thought.

To be eligible for funding, projects must have a minimum budget of 5,000 euros. The subsidy can cover up to 90% of a project's total cost, with a maximum limit of 20,000 euros per project. For the Paraninfo's programming, the Cabildo may finance up to 50% of the artists' fees for the shows.

These projects are scheduled to run between January 1, 2026, and May 30, 2027. During this time, the University of La Laguna will continue to strengthen its role in driving the island's cultural life. José Carlos Acha emphasized that this collaboration "consolidates the historical cooperation between the Cabildo and the University, two fundamental institutions in the promotion of talent, research, and culture in Tenerife."
