Tenerife's Cabildo has commissioned Gesplan for a €718,291.70 project from 2026 to 2028 to improve trails, facilities, and traditional agriculture in Teno Rural Park, aiming to protect the delicate area and enhance visitor experience.

Tenerife's local government, the Cabildo, has given the public company Gesplan the job of improving trails, public facilities, and growing traditional fruit trees in Teno Rural Park. This park is one of the island's most special and delicate natural areas.

This project, running from 2026 to 2028, has a budget of 718,291.70 euros. Its goals are to better protect the park, make it safer and more enjoyable for visitors, bring back old farming traditions, and help the Teno area's economy.

José Miguel Ruano, the Cabildo's second vice-president, noted that Teno Rural Park faces "huge pressure from visitors." He said this means "ongoing, expert work is needed to keep its trails, facilities, and natural beauty in good shape."

The work will involve upgrading official trails, adapting forest roads and firebreaks, getting rid of invasive foreign plants, and growing local traditional fruit trees. This will help preserve the park's landscape and farming heritage.

A full-time team will carry out the work. It will include a foreman, two operators skilled with chainsaws and brush cutters, and two environmental operators. They will also have an all-terrain vehicle and safety gear.

Blanca Pérez, the island's councilor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, stressed that this project is "vital for protecting Teno Rural Park and ensuring people can enjoy it safely, in an organized way, and to a high standard."

The project is set to last 36 months, from January 12, 2026, to December 31, 2028. It could be extended if weather or natural conditions require it.

In the same meeting, the Cabildo also approved taking back control of the Packaging Selection and Classification Plant (PSCE) at the Tenerife Environmental Complex. This happened after the management contract with the public company SINPROMI S.L. ended.

The plant has now been handed over to UTE NIVARIA, the company that manages the island's waste. This means managing light packaging will now be part of their existing contract.

This move ensures the service continues, improves how waste is tracked, and updates the island's system to meet new technical rules from the ECOEMBES Framework Agreement. The new management covers both the industrial sorting process and full maintenance of the plant.
