Tenerife’s business tourism sector saw significant growth in 2025, generating 435 million euros in total economic impact as the island successfully attracts more high-spending international corporate travelers.

Business tourism in Tenerife grew significantly over the past year, according to the 2025 Tenerife Meetings Industry Measurement Study. Conducted by the consulting firm Braintrust for the Tenerife Convention Bureau, the report highlights the island’s increasing success in attracting corporate events, which helps diversify its tourism industry beyond traditional leisure travel.

In 2025, the MICE sector (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) hosted 1,391 gatherings, a 1.8% increase from the previous year. These events brought in 176,695 attendees, up 3.1%. Financially, the sector generated 209.1 million euros in direct revenue—an increase of 14.2 million euros over 2024. When accounting for the broader impact on the local economy, this figure rises to 435 million euros, marking a total growth of 10.5%.

The Tenerife Island Council notes that these results support their strategy of attracting higher-spending visitors. There is a clear gap in spending habits: domestic attendees spend an average of 1,194 euros, while international visitors spend 2,172 euros. International guests also stay longer, averaging 5.6 nights compared to 3.6 for domestic visitors, and they largely prefer luxury accommodations, with 72% staying in four- or five-star hotels.

Conventions and conferences remain the most popular event types, making up nearly 62% of all meetings and over half of total attendance. Trade fairs, by contrast, remain a small part of the market at just 0.8%. A key strength of the sector is its ability to draw people from outside the island; 71.1% of participants travel from elsewhere, with 90% of international guests coming from Europe. Notably, more than half of these foreign professional visitors are first-time attendees.

The economic benefits extend well beyond hotels and registration fees. Catering, retail, and cultural activities capture more than 55% of the additional spending by these travelers. With attendees giving the destination an impressive satisfaction rating of 9.5 out of 10, Tenerife is well-positioned for 2026. The focus now shifts to maintaining this momentum while prioritizing sustainability and profitability to keep the island a top choice for international events.
