Tenerife Business Chief: Stalled Hospital "Insult to Public"
CEST President Javier Cabrera condemned the decades-long stalled expansion of the Hospital del Sur as an "insult" and "serious disrespect" to the public, demanding immediate action for the neglected region.
Javier Cabrera, president of the Circle of Businesspeople and Professionals of Southern Tenerife (CEST), says the stalled expansion of the Hospital del Sur "is an insult to the public and shows how our region has been ignored for a long time." He agrees with the citizen platform's criticism and warns that "this is a serious lack of respect."
Cabrera believes a hospital that meets the needs of our community is essential for Tenerife and for the balanced growth of our island. He states that the fact it has been "stuck for decades under different regional governments" is something "we will no longer accept in this part of the island." The CEST president pointed out that this situation "isn't happening anywhere else in the Canary Islands or in Spain."
After nearly two decades of broken promises, Cabrera emphasizes that the stalling of the Hospital del Sur "is no longer just an administrative problem. It's a serious and ongoing disrespect for the public, not only in southern Tenerife, but also for people on other islands like La Gomera, who could use this hospital."
Cabrera stressed that "our region, which creates a vital part of the Canary Islands' wealth, is constantly being mistreated and continues to be ignored by the regional government, both the current one and those before it." He also criticizes "the repeated announcements, deadlines, and dates that are never kept."
CEST warns that the patience of the public and businesses has completely run out. "Enough with empty words. We don't want more statements or meaningless headlines. We want action, and we want it now. Any talk not backed by decisions, investments, and a real timeline is just propaganda," said the CEST president.
