Tenerife Brims with Weekend Activities
Tenerife offers a vibrant weekend with diverse activities including a film screening at TEA, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra at Auditorio, a charity concert in La Laguna, the Tacoronte livestock festival, and a basketball game.
Tenerife is buzzing with weekend activities, thanks to both public and private efforts to keep the island lively. Whether you're into cinema, music, or sports, there's plenty to do. So, ditch those plans to stay home – you'll want to get out and enjoy these events!
This weekend, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is showing The Story of Frank and Nina at 7:00 PM. Directed by Paola Randi, this film is a realistic story about friendship and dignity during tough times. It won the 'Lanterna Magic' Award at the Venice Film Festival. The movie is set in an Italian city's outskirts, where three lonely young people – Frank, Nina, and Gollum – become friends by chance. Their friendship helps them stand strong against violence and being abandoned. As they try to escape their difficult lives, they find hope even in the darkest moments. The film is in Italian with Spanish subtitles.
The 42nd International Music Festival of the Canary Islands (FIMC) welcomes the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra from Munich to the Auditorio de Tenerife this weekend. This German orchestra, led by Estonian maestro Paavo Järvi, is returning to the islands after 25 years. They will perform two programs, moving from classical to romantic music, celebrating the symphony. You can buy tickets on the Auditorio's website.
This Sunday, the Leal Theater in La Laguna will host a charity concert. It's organized by the Board of Brotherhoods and Confraternities of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, supporting the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). The goal is to raise money for important work: preventing cancer, finding it early, caring for patients, and funding research. The La Laguna group Atlantes will perform again this year, joined by the Entrevoces Group. The concert starts at 7:00 PM.
The Tacoronte livestock festival is happening this Sunday, starting at 10 AM with an equestrian show by Chico de la Cruz. An hour later, at 11 AM, the 38th Tenerife Rural Foundation Livestock Dragging Contest will begin. This event, organized by the Canarian Dragging Federation, is for the Government of the Canary Islands Trophy. Throughout the day, visitors can also watch traditional island games like plow and stone lifting, and see a display by a team from the Children's League.
For sports fans, La Laguna Tenerife will play against Hiopos Lleida this Saturday. The basketball match kicks off at 7:00 PM at the Santiago Martín Pavilion.
