Tenerife Braces for Unsettled Weather and Potential Muddy Rain
Tenerife faces a shift toward unsettled weather this week as an isolated cold depression brings rain, cooler temperatures, and potential Saharan dust to the island.
The stable weather that defined the Easter holidays in the Canary Islands is coming to an end. According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Tenerife is bracing for a shift toward unsettled conditions caused by an isolated cold depression, which will shape the island's weather over the coming days.
The change begins this Tuesday, with increasing cloud cover and a front expected to bring light rain, particularly in the north. By Wednesday, humidity will rise, bringing the possibility of more persistent showers to the northern regions and mid-altitudes. Forecasters also warn of Saharan dust (calima), which could lead to muddy rain—a rare but recurring phenomenon under these conditions.
The worst of the weather is expected on Thursday, when rain could spread across the entire island, intensifying in the north by the afternoon. Temperatures will also drop, making it feel noticeably cooler after the recent spell of mild weather.
While the system is expected to weaken by Friday and into the weekend, some cloud and intermittent rain will likely persist. This change is significant for the island’s agriculture and water management, as it marks a shift from the recent dry spell to a week of variable, wetter weather.
