Tenerife Boosts Library Collections With €90,000 Grant
The Tenerife Island Council is allocating 90,000 euros to public libraries across the island to purchase books and other media, aiming to enhance their collections and public service.
The Tenerife Island Council, through its Culture, Museums, and Sports Department, will provide 90,000 euros to help the main public libraries across the island buy books and other media. This was announced by José Carlos Acha, the councilor for the department.
Mr. Acha explained that the Council plans to fund the purchase of books for these libraries each year, depending on the available budget. The aim is to improve their general collections.
He added that all 31 municipalities on the island have benefited from this distribution, with a total of 6,123 items provided using the 90,000 euros from the Council.
The Culture and Museums councilor stated that the purpose of this initiative is to give libraries new and updated books and media. This will ensure they offer a quality public service and help them follow guidelines for building and maintaining diverse collections.
To qualify for this funding, libraries must be owned by their local council, be open to the public for at least 15 hours a week, be considered the main library in their municipality, and have signed the collaboration agreement for the Island Library Plan 2016-2025. The deadline to show how the money was spent is June 30, 2026.
