The Canary Islands Health Service is deploying a specialized medical facility and a team of 21 professionals to the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Trade Fair and Congress Centre to manage emergency care during Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming visit.

Healthcare services in Tenerife are ramping up ahead of Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming visit. This Friday, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Trade Fair and Congress Centre will serve as the hub for a major medical operation designed to handle the large crowds expected for the event and prevent local hospital emergency rooms from becoming overwhelmed.

The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has established an Advanced Medical Post inside the venue’s Multipurpose Hall. The facility is organized into three triage levels: five stations for critical care, five for moderate cases, and ten areas for minor injuries. This setup follows standard safety protocols for large gatherings, ensuring that medical teams can respond quickly and efficiently.

A team of 21 healthcare professionals—including nine doctors, six nurses, and six emergency technicians—will be on-site. They will be supported by 16 vehicles to assist with patient transport and logistics. Additionally, an Advanced Command Post will be set up outside the venue, where a team of six specialists will coordinate security, communications, and decision-making.

Because of the scale of the event, authorities are urging attendees to prioritize their safety. Visitors are encouraged to stay hydrated, plan their travel in advance, and follow all instructions provided by security personnel on the ground.
