Tenerife Becomes Hub for New Spanish Comedy 'Mi Querida Familia Rusa'
Tenerife is currently hosting the production of Jordi Calvet’s new comedy Mi querida familia rusa, starring Miki Nadal and an ensemble cast, as the island continues to grow as a premier hub for the Spanish film industry.
Tenerife has become the hub of the Spanish film industry this July as production ramps up for the new comedy Mi querida familia rusa (My Dear Russian Family). Directed by Jordi Calvet, the cast and crew are currently filming across the island, with scenes being shot in Adeje and the capital, Santa Cruz.
When they aren't on set, the stars have been busy exploring the island. Actors Octavi Pujades, Nerea Rodríguez, and Mikel Herzog Jr. have been sharing their downtime on social media, posting photos from trips to Las Teresitas beach and Teide National Park. These posts offer a behind-the-scenes look at the cast while highlighting some of the island’s most famous landmarks.
The film marks the first major leading role for comedian Miki Nadal. The plot follows a family conflict sparked by an engagement announcement between the characters played by Herzog Jr. and Rodríguez, exploring the tensions and prejudices that arise when two very different families collide. The star-studded ensemble also features Cristina Medina, Beatriz Rico, Pablo Puyol, Beatriz Mur, Santiago Urrialde, Malena González, and Macarena Gómez.
Choosing the Canary Islands for the shoot is part of a growing trend in Spanish filmmaking, driven by the region's diverse landscapes and attractive tax incentives. The production is making the most of this variety, blending the volcanic scenery of Tenerife’s peaks with the coastal beauty of Santa Cruz to tell its story. Filming began on June 29 and is expected to continue on the island for the next few weeks.
