Tenerife B Hosts Rayo B in Postponed Match, Eyes Playoff Spot

Tenerife B hosts Rayo B today in a postponed league match at 4 PM, streamed live on YouTube, with a win potentially moving them level on points for a promotion playoff spot.

Tenerife B plays one of their two postponed league matches today. They will host Rayo B at the Javier Pérez Sports City at 4:00 PM. Fans can watch the game live on the club's YouTube channel. A win today would put Tenerife B level on points with Orihuela, who currently hold a promotion playoff spot in Segunda RFEF Group 5. This game, originally scheduled for December 14 as part of the fifteenth round, was postponed because Storm Emilia prevented Rayo B from travelling.

After today's match, Tenerife B will still have one more game to catch up on: their derby against Las Palmas Atlético, which was supposed to be played on January 18. That derby was postponed because strong winds stopped the Las Palmas team's plane from landing at Los Rodeos. It has now been rescheduled for March 11.

The game against Rayo B kicks off a series of three home matches for Leandro Cabrera's team. This Sunday, they will play Intercity, followed by CDA Navalcarnero on February 8.

Coach Mazinho specifically highlighted that Tenerife B needs to "take a step forward at home." He sees the period from January into next month as the perfect time to do this. Their main goals are to move away from the relegation zone and "move up the table," hoping to finish the season with a chance of promotion to Primera Federación.

However, the reserve team's home record at the Sports City doesn't currently support this ambition. They are the third-worst home team in Group 5, having earned just eight points from two wins and two draws in seven matches. This figure doesn't include their two postponed games against Rayo B and Las Palmas Atlético. Their last home win at the La Laguna facilities was on November 16 against Colonia Moscardó. Interestingly, they also beat Colonia Moscardó last Sunday, but away from home, with a 2-0 victory thanks to penalty goals from Juan Ybarra and Loren Sánchez.

The team aims to build on a positive run of form – their best this season was three consecutive wins and five matches unbeaten at the start of the season. They hope to do this against a Rayo B side that, statistically, struggles to win away from home. The Vallecas-based team has the third-worst away record in the league. In eight away games, they have won twice (against Sanse and Socuéllamos) and drawn once (against Quintanar del Rey). Jorge Vallejo's squad is also the sixth lowest-scoring team (21 goals) and the fourth most vulnerable in defence (29 goals conceded).

Rayo B comes into this match having not won in their last two games, following a draw at Quintanar and a home loss to Fuenlabrada.

This will be the first time these two reserve teams have played each other. However, Rayo B did play Tenerife's first team four times in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons, when both were in the third division. Two of those matches were at the Rodríguez López stadium.

The match will be officiated by 25-year-old Iván García Rey from the Galician Committee.
