Tenerife B Edge Intercity in Thrilling Away Win, Extend Perfect Road Record
Tenerife B maintained their perfect away record with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Intercity, secured by a late Julen Zubelzu goal after Ybarra's brace had twice leveled the score.
Tenerife B, the league leaders who've been perfect on the road, grabbed a thrilling win away at Intercity. Ybarra scored twice to level the score against the Alicante team, who then lost their unbeaten record when Julen Zubelzu scored the winning goal in extra time.
The game started intensely, with both sides evenly matched. Tenerife B tried to control possession, while their opponents played a more direct style. Ulloa had the first good chance, shooting from distance. But Intercity scored first when Sito's low shot was saved by Aragoneses, only for Santamaría to score from the rebound.
Despite going behind, Tenerife B kept fighting. After half an hour, Juan Ybarra equalized with a brilliant free kick into the top corner. Walid then had three chances to put his team ahead – a header, a shot on the turn, and a one-on-one – but Mackay saved them all to keep the score at 1-1 at halftime.
After the break, Yero shot wide from distance. Then, ten minutes into the second half, Intercity took the lead again when San Emeterio headed in a corner at the near post. Tenerife B pushed forward, and with ten minutes remaining, Kevin headed a long free kick to the far post, where Ybarra headed in his second goal.
The final minutes were end-to-end. San Emeterio thought he'd scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Then, Ybarra was denied again by the home goalkeeper. Finally, in the 94th minute, Julen headed in a corner at the near post to win the game 3-2.
