Tenerife authorities have arrested a suspect for allegedly starting a forest fire in Icod de los Vinos as the island remains on high alert due to extreme environmental conditions.

Authorities in Tenerife have stepped up forest surveillance following a recent fire in Icod de los Vinos. The Civil Guard arrested a suspect accused of starting a small blaze in the San José de los Llanos area. Thanks to quick reports from local residents and an efficient police response, officers were able to intercept the individual less than an hour after the fire began.

This incident comes at a time of high environmental risk. A lack of rain and current weather conditions have put the Canary Islands on high alert, requiring constant monitoring. Because the dry terrain makes even a small fire a significant threat, emergency teams are mobilized immediately.

Firefighting crews have brought the flames under control and remain on-site to cool the ground and prevent the fire from reigniting. The suspect is currently in police custody and will soon face court, where they will answer for the criminal charges related to the incident.
