Tenerife Aquatic Center Lands Spanish Artistic Swimming, Water Polo Worlds
The Tenerife Aquatic Sports Center in Puerto de la Cruz will host the Spanish Junior and Senior Winter Artistic Swimming Championship in March, featuring top national athletes, following its confirmation as the venue for the Women's Junior Water Polo World Championship in August.
The Tenerife Aquatic Sports Center (CDAT) in Puerto de la Cruz is fast becoming a leading venue for major competitions. After being confirmed to host the upcoming Women's Junior Water Polo World Championship, the center will also welcome the Spanish Junior and Senior Winter Artistic Swimming Championship in March.
This artistic swimming event promises a high level of competition, featuring several senior athletes who performed exceptionally well at the 2025 Singapore World Championships. There, the Spanish National Team secured nine medals, proving its strength in the sport internationally.
Poli Suárez, the Canary Islands' Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports, expressed his delight that "the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation has once again chosen the Canary Islands for one of its main national events." He believes this choice reflects "the ongoing effort we've made to establish the archipelago as a territory fully ready to organize significant sporting events."
The Minister also confirmed "full support from the Government of the Canary Islands, through its Sports department, for the event." He highlighted that attracting well-known competitions "is also a way to promote our land." Suárez stressed the importance of cooperation between institutions at all levels, stating that "working together, hand in hand, we can go further and achieve more."
Lope Afonso, the Vice President of the Cabildo, noted that such events "clearly strengthen the connection between tourism and sport." He emphasized that "hosting national and international competitions not only boosts the local economy but also showcases Tenerife as a destination capable of holding top-tier events." Afonso added that the CDAT was built to be a leading facility for both elite sports and for promoting the island to the world.
Fernando Carpena, President of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, shared his gratitude and excitement. He said, "From RFEN Aquatics, we are deeply thankful and thrilled to organize the Spanish Junior-Senior Artistic Swimming Championship at the new Tenerife Aquatic Center, a magnificent facility that has everything needed for top-level events. This will be a very important championship, with national team athletes taking part, and we are sure it will be the start of a successful period, the first of many similar championships we can hold here in the future."
While the national artistic swimming event in March will be the CDAT's first national competition, its international calendar already features a major highlight: the Women's Junior Water Polo World Championship, set for August 16 to 23. Twenty countries will compete for the world title, bringing together the sport's best young talent to enjoy a unique pool in the Canary Islands, which is also one of the best in Spain.
