Tenerife Approves Major Budget Boost to Become Atlantic Tech Hub

The Tenerife Island Council has taken a major step toward establishing the island as a leading Atlantic technology hub by approving an extraordinary budget for 2026. The strategy focuses on two main goals: expanding the Tenerife Science and Technology Park (PCTT) and building a shared supercomputing and artificial intelligence network with the Technological and Renewable Energy Institute (ITER).

To meet the high demand from innovative companies, funding for the PCTT will increase from 567,172 euros to over 1.4 million euros. This is in addition to the 1.36 million euros already set aside for a new "Clean Room" facility in Cuevas Blancas, which is essential for developing microtechnology and semiconductors.

Beyond physical expansion, the Council is upgrading its digital infrastructure. By partnering with ITER, the island will launch a centralized computing platform. This will allow the island government and local municipalities to use automation, AI assistants, and advanced data analysis to improve public services and support better decision-making.

This initiative is part of the Tenerife Innovation Master Plan and aims to give the Canary Islands greater technological independence. By developing its own AI infrastructure, the Council hopes to streamline bureaucracy, modernize how citizens interact with the government, and reduce reliance on outside software providers.
