Tenerife Approves €375,000 Renovation for El Sauzal Road Link
Tenerife’s Island Council has approved a 375,000-euro project to fully renovate the service road connecting the TF-5 motorway to El Sauzal, replacing temporary repairs with a durable surface and improved safety infrastructure.
Tenerife’s Island Council has approved plans to renovate the service road connecting the TF-5 motorway to Lomo Piedras Street in El Sauzal. The project, which has a budget of 375,004.97 euros, aims to move away from the current "quick-fix" maintenance approach that has long plagued the area.
Currently, the road surface is in poor condition, frequently requiring temporary cold asphalt patches. Dámaso Arteaga, the island’s Minister of Roads, noted that this method is not cost-effective. Instead, the council plans a full rehabilitation of the road to provide a stable surface for the high volume of daily traffic, particularly for those visiting the local cemetery.
In addition to repaving, the project includes redesigning the median near the cemetery entrance and installing new safety barriers. These upgrades are essential for preventing vehicles from running off the road in this busy area. This work builds on previous improvements made to the nearby Molaio ravine and local road network in 2021.
While the project has received initial approval, it is currently in a public consultation period. Once this stage is complete, the contract will be put out to tender. The Council has not yet announced a construction schedule or details on how the work might affect local traffic. This renovation is part of a broader effort to modernize the island’s road network and help reduce congestion on the TF-5.
