Tenerife Approves €3.1M Las Vistas Promenade Upgrade
The Island Council has approved a €3.1 million renovation project for the Las Vistas beach promenade in Los Cristianos, aiming to upgrade the popular tourist spot with new paving, street furniture, and improved accessibility.
Las Vistas beach is set to get a major upgrade with a project to renovate its promenade, costing over three million euros. The Island Council's Governing Board approved the plan this week. Lope Afonso, Vice President and Councillor for Tourism, called it "a strategic move to improve the coast and the most popular tourist spot in the south of the island."
Afonso explained that the total cost is estimated at 5,530,820 euros. Of this, the Cabildo de Tenerife is funding 3,143,031 euros. The work will completely revamp the promenade, covering new paving, street furniture, green spaces, and accessible routes.
This investment from the Cabildo de Tenerife's Department of Tourism is for the Las Vistas Beach Promenade in Los Cristianos (Arona). It's part of a larger initiative called the Island Program for Tourism Strategy and Regeneration (PIER).
The Vice President added that the new design will ensure everyone can access it easily. It will also highlight the natural beauty of the Los Cristianos coastline, making the area better for tourists, improving public spaces, and making the destination more sustainable.
Afonso clarified that the goal is to update Los Cristianos' most iconic promenade. This involves redesigning it to be wider and offer a more direct path to the beach.
Afonso noted that these projects are designed to be thorough, tackling specific areas within the towns. He described PIER as a vital plan for refreshing the look and attractions of these island municipalities, aiming to regenerate Tenerife's tourist zones.
The Cabildo de Tenerife's Governing Board officially approved the PIER program for 2024-2027 on December 18, 2024. This program has an initial budget of 18 million euros and includes eight major projects.
Lope Afonso also mentioned that five municipalities are part of PIER: Arona, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, Santiago del Teide, and San Miguel de Abona. These areas account for 120,970 tourist beds, which is over 90% of all accommodation and the highest concentration of tourists. This heavy use causes more wear and tear. He stated that the Cabildo is committed to improving these vital areas that support the island's tourism, making them more appealing and addressing their current conditions.
