Tenerife Approves €2 Million Sewer Upgrade Project in El Rosario
The Tenerife Island Council has approved a €2.02 million project to modernize the sewer system in El Rosario, aiming to improve drainage efficiency through a new, sustainable separation of rainwater and sewage.
Tenerife’s efforts to modernize its water infrastructure have reached a new milestone. The Island Council has approved the second phase of the La Esperanza-Llano del Moro sewer project in El Rosario. This €2.02 million investment aims to fix long-standing drainage issues on El Sino Street.
The project centers on installing a "separate" sewer system, which is now the standard for sustainable urban planning. By separating rainwater runoff from household sewage, the system prevents treatment plants from becoming overwhelmed during heavy rain—a common issue in older networks. This upgrade will ensure that waste is managed more efficiently and meets modern environmental standards.
The project is a joint financial effort: the Tenerife Island Council is funding 90% of the cost, while the El Rosario City Council is covering the remaining 10%. This partnership highlights the importance of the work, as improving this key section of the local network will boost the efficiency of the entire regional sanitation system.
The project is now moving to the bidding stage. Once a contractor is selected, construction is expected to take 15 months. For local residents, this project represents a vital step forward in improving water management and preventing the risks associated with overloaded sewer systems.
