The Tenerife Island Council will close the TF-13 road near Bajamar overnight on May 4 to begin a seven-month slope stabilization project aimed at preventing rockfalls.

The Tenerife Island Council has announced upcoming traffic restrictions on the TF-13 road near Bajamar, La Laguna. The move is necessary to stabilize a slope following a recent rockfall, a project deemed essential for the safety of the 2,700 residents in Punta del Hidalgo who rely on this route.

The project, awarded to Tacande Geotecnia S.L. for approximately €838,000, is expected to take seven months to complete. It involves installing seven high-energy dynamic barriers and securing two rock formations with anchors and mesh.

To allow heavy machinery to be positioned between kilometers 16+000 and 16+200, the road will be completely closed to traffic overnight from 11:00 PM on May 4 to 5:00 AM on May 5. No alternative routes will be available during these hours, so drivers are advised to plan their travel accordingly and follow all posted signage.

Dámaso Arteaga, the Councilor for Roads, explained that the work is being carried out at night to minimize disruption to daily traffic. The project is part of a wider effort to manage geological risks and ensure the long-term safety of the island’s road network. Island technicians are overseeing the work to ensure it is completed safely and efficiently.
