The Cabildo of Tenerife has launched a €1.5 million aid package to support 207 local livestock farms in managing rising feed costs and ensuring regional food security.

Tenerife’s livestock industry has received a vital boost to help farmers cope with rising costs. The Cabildo of Tenerife has announced a €1.5 million fund to help cover the cost of animal feed, which is currently the biggest financial burden for local producers due to volatile raw material prices and the high costs of island logistics.

Managed by the Primary Sector department under Valentín González, this aid is designed to reduce the industry's reliance on external supplies. The funding covers sheep, goat, cattle, pig, rabbit, and poultry farms. This year, 207 farms successfully qualified for the support—an increase from the 198 farms helped in 2024. The Cabildo views this growth as a sign that the sector is becoming more stable, professional, and modern.

This initiative is about more than just money; it is essential for food security and keeping rural areas active. By supporting these farms, the island ensures a steady supply of local dairy and meat products while protecting over 200 direct jobs. Without this help, many farmers might be forced to close due to the high cost of supplies and transport, which would threaten both the local economy and the island's traditional farming landscape.

Ultimately, the Cabildo’s strategy aims to shield local producers from the pressures of international markets. By helping farmers manage the fluctuating costs of feed and forage, the institution is building a more resilient primary sector that can better withstand the uncertainties of the global supply chain.
