Tenerife Announces €1.35 Million Childcare Grant Program for 2026/2027 Academic Year

The Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) has announced new financial aid to help cover childcare costs for children aged 0 to 3 for the 2026/2027 academic year. Designed to help families balance work and home life, the program has an initial budget of 1.35 million euros, which could rise to two million euros based on demand.

The initiative provides a direct grant of 800 euros per student for children attending authorized private nurseries that do not receive public funding. To be eligible, a family’s per capita income for the 2025 tax year must be 20,000 euros or less. Applications can be submitted online via the Cabildo’s website or in person by the October 30, 2026, deadline.

This program is part of a broader effort to support early childhood education, which is vital for a child's social and cognitive development. Island President Rosa Dávila stated that the goal is to remove financial barriers to schooling, aiming to support over 6,000 families during this term. Since its launch, the Cabildo has invested 5.8 million euros in the program, helping more than 3,000 households.

While this grant cannot be combined with other funding for the same purpose, it can be used alongside fee discounts offered by municipal nurseries. Efraín Medina, the Minister of Employment, Education, and Youth, noted that the funds are intended to cover a variety of costs, including tuition, childcare, meals, hygiene supplies, and uniforms.
