Tenerife Adopts Sustainable Fireworks for 2026 Mount Carmel Festivities
The 2026 Our Lady of Mount Carmel festivities in Tenerife will feature an eco-friendly fireworks display in Puerto de Santiago, utilizing recyclable materials to minimize environmental impact on the coastal ecosystem.
Traditional celebrations in the Canary Islands are becoming more sustainable. As part of the 2026 Our Lady of Mount Carmel festivities in Tenerife, the fireworks display in Puerto de Santiago—scheduled for midnight on Saturday, July 18—will use shells made from recyclable materials to reduce its environmental impact.
The display, a highlight of the island’s summer calendar, will be managed by Hermanos Toste, a pyrotechnics firm based in Los Realejos. Known for their success in international competitions, the company has designed a 30-minute show that will use one ton of explosives, carefully choreographed for rhythm, color, and a high-intensity finale.
This shift toward reusable materials reflects a growing trend in the industry to balance large-scale entertainment with environmental regulations. As waste management for fireworks faces stricter scrutiny, this initiative sets an important example for hosting major events in coastal areas, where preventing plastic and metallic debris from harming local ecosystems is a top priority.
