Tenerife has activated emergency protocols and closed natural areas as Storm Therese brings forecasts of heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous sea conditions to the island through Monday.

Tenerife is bracing for Storm Therese, prompting the Island Council to trigger emergency protocols across the island until next Monday. Based on forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the island expects severe weather, including heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous sea conditions.

To ensure public safety, the Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) will be active starting at 3:00 p.m. today. As part of these security measures, all access to natural areas—including Teide National Park, forest trails, and recreational sites—is now closed. Additionally, the TF-445 road to Punta de Teno is off-limits to traffic. Island Council President Rosa Dávila has advised residents to avoid all non-essential travel and to monitor official updates closely.

The storm is expected to hit the western part of the archipelago over the weekend, with the southwest, the mountain peaks, and the northern coast at the highest risk. Due to the threat of landslides, flooding, and rough seas, many cultural and sporting events have been canceled, including the Tenerife Bluetrail.

The Island Council has also instructed local municipalities to activate their own emergency plans, particularly to monitor coastal areas and regions prone to flooding. These swift actions are intended to minimize the impact of the storm, which is expected to cause significant disruption across Tenerife throughout the coming days.
