Televisión Canaria’s coverage of the Virgin of Candelaria festivities highlights the vital role regional media plays in preserving local heritage and bringing the community together. More than just a religious broadcast, the network’s extensive coverage on August 14 serves as a celebration of island identity and collective history.

The broadcast begins at 8:00 p.m. with a historical reenactment of the discovery of the Virgin’s image, a story that bridges Tenerife’s aboriginal roots with its modern-day culture. Narrated by Cristo Negrín, this segment sets the stage for the significance of the Villa Mariana. At 9:40 p.m., the long-running program Noche de Peregrinos takes over from the Basilica. Directed by Alexis Hernández and Laura Afonso, the show will feature performances from local folk musicians, including Pedro Díaz and Matías Felipe.
