In Tenerife, "Hearts Day" was celebrated, where districts competed in creating giant floral-fruit compositions, which were blessed in the square.

It was very bright in the town of Tejina, Tenerife, this Sunday! They were celebrating "Hearts Day" – a local holiday where people from different districts compete to see who can make the best large composition of flowers and fruits. Can you imagine, these "hearts" reach up to 12 meters in length and weigh about 100 kilograms!

About a thousand people gathered for this event. It all takes place during a big week of celebrations in honor of Saint Bartholomew. Religion and folk traditions are intertwined here.

Before this, there were several days of various entertainments: a big fireworks display on Saturday evening, a "treasure hunt" for the little ones, and a procession.

The three main streets of Tejina – Lower, Upper, and Pico Street – paraded, each in its own colors. People sang songs, and everyone together, from small to large, moved to the square near the church.

The most interesting thing began when the "hearts" were brought to the square. Each district raised its structure so that the saint could bless it. And everyone could see how skillfully people had worked on these "hearts" all week.

After the church service, the participants carried their "hearts" back to the crosses that stand near the church. There, through joint efforts, they were lifted and secured. They will stand there until tomorrow, and everyone will be able to see them. Older people are especially looking forward to this holiday, as they eagerly await this day every year.
