Tejina Concludes Saint Bartholomew Festivities With Traditional 'Corazones' Display

The town of Tejina in Tenerife will wrap up its annual Saint Bartholomew festivities this Sunday, August 30th. According to the La Laguna City Council, the event is a vital tradition that brings the community together and preserves the unique heritage of the Northeast region. The highlight of the celebration is the creation and display of the "Corazones" (Hearts)—intricate, plant-based structures that serve as a symbol of local identity and are built by residents of all ages.

To prepare for the large crowds expected this weekend, the city council has launched a special plan to manage public security and street cleaning. Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez praised the local associations and the organizing committee for their year-round dedication, while Councilor for Festivities Dailos González noted that the active participation of the residents is what keeps the tradition thriving.

The weekend schedule is packed with events. Friday features a float parade and an evening street party. On Saturday, the "Bebetlon" sporting event will be followed by a procession for the patron saint, a fireworks display, and more dancing.

The main event takes place on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., when the "Corazones" from the town’s three streets are brought to the church square. They will remain on display until Monday afternoon. The festivities officially conclude on Tuesday with traditional folk music, the removal of decorations, and the symbolic burning of the "Haragán." Younger residents also play a key role in the tradition, having showcased their own "Corazones Chicos" (Little Hearts) during the first weekend of August, ensuring the next generation is ready to carry on the custom.
