Involcan reports over 300 small earthquakes around Tenerife's Teide volcano since Monday, indicating continuous deep magmatic activity observed since 2016, with no immediate eruption expected.

Teide volcano in Tenerife is still showing signs of activity, according to the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan). Since Monday afternoon, Involcan has detected over 300 small earthquakes around the volcano. While this doesn't mean an eruption is expected in the near future, it does highlight continuous movement deep beneath the island.

This latest event is the eighth of its kind since October 2016. Similar activity was recorded on June 14, 2019, June 16, 2022, July 12, 2022, November 14, 2024, August 7, 2025, and February 12, 2026. Scientists believe these clusters of earthquakes are caused by magmatic fluids entering the island's underground hot water system.

Other scientific data supports this explanation, including more carbon dioxide gas escaping from the Teide crater and a slight change in the ground's shape on the volcano's northeast side. Involcan stresses that despite these repeated events since 2016, the likelihood of an eruption in Tenerife hasn't significantly changed. However, the institute has also noted that the increased volcanic activity observed in Tenerife since late 2016 shows no signs of slowing down.
