The Tegueste City Council has unveiled a comprehensive logistical plan, including a 200-person security team and a dedicated safety point, to manage the large crowds expected at the 2026 Romería of Saint Mark the Evangelist on April 26.

The Tegueste City Council has released the plans for the 2026 Romería of Saint Mark the Evangelist, one of the Canary Islands' most important cultural events. To handle the large crowds expected on Sunday, April 26, the town is launching a major logistical operation to keep the traditional parade running smoothly.

A team of nearly 200 personnel will manage the event, focusing on traffic control, town access, and coordinating with TITSA public transport to prevent gridlock in the town center.

The parade route has been carefully planned to keep the traditional carts moving efficiently. The procession will begin at the Plaza de Tegueste, heading up Calle El Pino. Carts will gather beforehand near La Placeta and Calle Jesús Cedrés. The route will then descend via Calle La Audiencia, move through Calle El Carmen, and head back up Calle Nueva, finally passing through the historic center’s pedestrian area before returning to Calle El Pino to complete the circuit.

Mayor Norberto Padilla emphasized that careful planning is key to a successful event, while Councilor for Festivals Eladia López urged attendees to follow safety guidelines. This professional approach reflects a broader trend among Canarian municipalities to better manage large-scale events that blend local tradition with tourism.

As part of its commitment to safety, the City Council will also host a "Violet Point" on Calle Casino. This station will provide information and support regarding sexist aggression, operating from 3:00 PM on Sunday until 1:00 AM on Monday, April 27. This initiative is part of a growing effort across Spain to ensure that large public festivals remain safe and welcoming for everyone.
