Tegueste to Preserve Culinary Heritage with Fourth Annual Adobo and Wine Meeting
The Tenerife municipality of Tegueste will host its fourth annual Adobo and Wine Meeting on October 10th, launching a new initiative to document and preserve local family recipes in an official cookbook.
Preserving the islands' intangible heritage often comes down to one of its most fragile yet essential elements: traditional home cooking. To protect this culinary legacy, the Tenerife municipality of Tegueste is hosting the fourth annual Adobo and Wine Meeting on October 10th.
Starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Plaza del Socorro, the event is more than just a food festival; it is a celebration of collective memory. Seven local residents will showcase their family recipes, each offering a unique take on one of the Canary Islands' most iconic dishes. By comparing these different versions, attendees can see how local culinary identity has been shaped through generations of oral tradition.
The event also highlights Tegueste’s wine industry, pairing the food with local vintages to support the region’s primary sector and weave wine production into the town’s cultural story. Accompanied by live music, the meeting aims to create a space where local products and traditional techniques support one another.
This year marks a significant step forward for the project. In partnership with the Government of the Canary Islands and GMR Canarias, organizers are launching an editorial project to document every recipe featured since the event began. By creating an official cookbook, the municipality is ensuring that these family secrets are preserved for the future, turning a local gathering into a permanent record of Tegueste’s gastronomic heritage.
