Tegueste Readies for Territorio y Vino Festival
Tegueste, Tenerife, will host its Territorio y Vino Festival from March 20-22 and throughout the month, celebrating the region's unique wines, winemaking traditions, and their importance to local culture and economy.
Tegueste, on the island of Tenerife, is getting ready to host a new edition of the Territorio y Vino Festival. According to the local council, this event aims to showcase its unique wines and the long-standing traditions behind them. The annual festival highlights how important winemaking is to the cultural and economic identity of areas known for their specific wines (Designation of Origin or Regional Wines). It's a key part of rural development and promoting local products in the Canary Islands, famous for their distinct grape varieties and volcanic soils.
The Tegueste City Council, through its Department of Environment and Primary Sector, is organizing the festival with the Tegueste Winegrowers' Association (AVITE). The main events will take place from March 20 to 22, with other activities continuing until the end of the month.
The main program, which blends culture and food, kicks off on Friday, March 20, at 8:30 PM in the Sala Prebendado Pacheco. This will be a wine pairing event featuring Tegueste wines alongside Argentine wines, accompanied by tango music. The next day, Saturday, March 21, also at 8:30 PM, an 'EuskCanarias' event will bring together Basque txakoli and local wines, with music from the timple and txalaparta. The weekend concludes on Sunday, March 22, at 12:00 PM in the Patio Prebendado Pacheco with an event dedicated to vermouth and local food, designed as a community get-together.
Later, between March 23 and 26, the preliminary stages for the 'Distinction of Tegueste wines from the 2025 harvest' will take place. This involves collecting samples from wineries and conducting a blind tasting. The official presentation of these distinctions is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at 8:00 PM at the Teatro Príncipe Felipe, featuring a musical performance by the group Filigrana. Admission to this event will be free.
The municipal mayor, Norberto Padilla, emphasized the festival's importance as a way to strengthen Tegueste's local identity. Padilla highlighted that wine not only shapes the municipality's history and landscape but also symbolizes the hard work of generations of families to preserve this tradition. He believes that events like the Territorio y Vino Festival help share its wine heritage with both locals and visitors. This boosts local culture and strengthens the connection between the land, its people, and their traditions.
Julián Rodríguez, Councillor for Environment and Primary Sector, added that the festival aims to support the local farming sector and economy. It also creates meeting spaces where food, music, and culture come together to promote the area's wines and heritage. Rodríguez noted that these activities help bring the world of wine closer to the public, encouraging people to learn more about wine, drink responsibly, and feel proud of Tegueste's products.
