Tegueste Prepares for 58th San Marcos Evangelista Pilgrimage with Enhanced Security and Transport
Tegueste is deploying 200 security personnel and enhanced public transport for this Sunday’s 58th San Marcos Evangelista Pilgrimage, which features strict traditional dress guidelines and a dedicated support station for attendee safety.
Tegueste is preparing for the 58th San Marcos Evangelista Pilgrimage this Sunday, April 26. As one of Tenerife’s most important cultural events, the festival requires significant planning to manage large crowds and protect the town’s heritage.
To ensure public safety, 200 personnel—including the Civil Guard, Canary Islands Police, Local Police, and Civil Protection—will be on duty. They will manage traffic and access to the town center, as the traditional cart procession will travel through key streets, including El Pino, La Audiencia, El Carmen, and Calle Nueva. Authorities advise attendees to plan their travel early, as the historic center will face significant traffic restrictions.
To help with travel, Titsa is offering extra bus services. This includes more frequent trips on line 015 between Santa Cruz and La Laguna, and a shuttle service running from the La Laguna Interchange to Tegueste until the early hours of Monday. Please note that lines 051 and 057 will follow altered routes through Pedro Álvarez during the festivities.
The Town Council is also working to preserve the event’s cultural identity. They have released a guide on traditional dress, encouraging attendees to wear authentic traje de mago and avoid modern accessories that detract from the festival's historical value.
Additionally, a "Violet Point" will be set up on Calle Casino to provide support and prevent sexist harassment. This station will be open from 3:00 p.m. on Sunday until 1:00 a.m. on Monday, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all.
